Our Mission

Making AI's benefits tangible for every American

Simple Appraisal Protest was built on a straightforward belief: the same data science and machine learning tools that give large institutions an edge should be equally available to the ordinary homeowner. Property taxes are one of the most significant recurring costs in American households, yet the process for challenging an unfair assessment has historically required hiring an attorney or appraiser — resources most people cannot afford. We're changing that.

What we built

Our platform analyzes hundreds of thousands of county parcel records, applies machine learning to identify statistically comparable properties, and uses AI to generate a legally-grounded protest packet — in under 15 minutes, for $29.99. No appointment. No commission. No attorney.

The entire pipeline — from address lookup to comparable selection to document generation — runs on Google Cloud: Cloud Run for serverless compute, Cloud SQL for structured parcel data at scale, Cloud Storage for document caching, and Secret Manager for secure credential handling. We rely on large language models via the Anthropic Claude API for contextual reasoning and document drafting, and on Google Maps for geographic validation and visualization.

Built on Google Cloud from day one

Cloud Run

Serverless, auto-scaling API backend. Zero infrastructure management — we ship features, not servers.

Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL)

500,000+ county parcel records across Georgia, with structured assessment and comparable data.

Cloud Storage

Generated PDF reports cached in GCS with lifecycle policies — fast delivery at minimal cost.

Secret Manager

All credentials — Stripe, Anthropic, email — managed centrally, never in code.

Claude AI (Anthropic)

LLM-powered document generation, email classification, and comparative analysis reasoning.

Google Maps Platform

Street View imagery, geocoding, and interactive comp maps embedded in every protest packet.

AI and machine learning at the core

The core analytical engine is a comparable-selection model trained on county CAMA (Computer-Assisted Mass Appraisal) data. It identifies properties that match on physical characteristics — square footage, year built, neighborhood code — and then computes an equity ratio comparing assessed value per square foot. If your home is assessed higher than statistically similar homes, Georgia law (O.C.G.A. § 48-5-2) gives you a clear basis to appeal.

We continuously refine this model as new county data comes in. Each new county we add expands the dataset and sharpens our comparables engine. We run nightly data pipelines, automated FOIA inbox monitoring (Claude-powered), and county-specific QA passes — all without human intervention.

Why this matters — and who it's for

Property tax overpayments are regressive: they disproportionately affect homeowners in rapidly appreciating neighborhoods — often working-class and middle-class families — whose assessments rise faster than surrounding properties. The appeal process exists in every state but is opaque, time-consuming, and practically unavailable to anyone without a professional advocate.

We believe the public's view of AI and technology improves when those tools produce real, tangible financial benefits in people's everyday lives — not just in enterprise boardrooms. A homeowner who gets $800 back because an AI found their assessment was unfair has a very different relationship with technology than one who reads about it in the news.

That is our community value proposition: use AI and cloud infrastructure not to automate jobs, but to democratize access to services that were previously gated behind professional fees.

Startup culture & approach

Simple Appraisal Protest is a lean, AI-native startup. The entire product — data pipeline, web application, document generation, payment processing, and customer communication — runs autonomously with minimal human intervention. Every new capability we ship further automates what was once a labor-intensive professional service.

We operate with a strong bias toward automation over headcount, data over intuition, and public cloud over owned infrastructure. Google Cloud's managed services let a small founding team move at a pace that would be impossible with traditional on-premise or self-managed infrastructure.

We're currently live in four Georgia Metro Atlanta counties with 500,000+ parcels indexed, and expanding. The roadmap includes additional Georgia counties, adjacent states, and eventually a generalized platform for other local government assessment challenges — all powered by the same AI and cloud foundation.
